Captain Barry McPolin Welcomes you to Duquesa Golf Society

It is my great pleasure to welcome everyone to the newest golf society on the Costa del Sol and, indeed, a great honour to be the first Captain of the Duquesa Golf Friends Golf Society. I am a member of Blarney Golf Club in Cork, Ireland. I first started playing the game in Spain about fifteen years ago and caught the bug! Since then, I have made so many friends and acquaintances through the game of golf. I am a member of my home club men’s committee and was Blarney Men’s ClubPresident in 2023.
Our title says it all – Duquesa Golf Friends - a community of people who play golf for fun (or not!) and enjoy the beautiful surroundings and vibrancy of Puerto de la Duquesa on the Mediterranean Sea, framed panoramically by the hills and mountains of Andalusia as a stunning picture backdrop.
Our society started when a small group of us came together in late 2025 to form a golf society that would organise friendly but competitive golf competitions on a weekly basis (depending on the numbers available) for the many residents and visitors who share a love of the game of golf and, of course, the consequent social benefits that ensue from such activities! We are truly spoiled for choice on the Costa del Sol and it was our determination from the outset to ensure that we obtain best-value golf for all members of our society.
New members are most welcome, and you can easily join through a request on this website or by contacting any of the committee members.

The annual membership fee is €20.
I must mention our hard-working committee, to whom I am extremely grateful, which
comprises of:
Maureen Sheridan: Treasurer
Austin Henry: Group Administrator and Event Organiser
Jim Duggan: Handicap and Rules Secretary
Enda Quigley: Event Organiser
Paul Hands: Technical Advisor
They have been extremely busy over the winter months drawing up a comprehensive document of society rules, designing and running an efficient and
easy-to-use booking/payment system for weekly (Friday) golf, planning a golf/social event in Ireland for late July/early August 2026 (details to be confirmed), planning the Captain’s Week in October 2026 – dates for your diary – 6th October (team scramble)
and 9th October (singles competition).

We are also very close to offering all members of our society the opportunity to purchase a high-quality society tee/sleeveless shirt
with embroidered society logo at a very good price (details to be announced shortly).

I look forward to meeting you all over the coming year as your Captain and look forward to playing with you in the beautiful sunshine on excellent golf courses and , of course, at the social gatherings amongst friends.
Yours in golf,
Barry McPolin
